We shared the great news about the ScottishPower smart meter contract win in May. This will be launching in Post Office branches and Payzone outlets soon.
Once it’s launched, ScottishPower pre-payment customers across the UK will be able to top up their smart meter over the counter in a Post Office or a Payzone bill payment outlet.
ScottishPower is supplying the new smart meters to customers on a rolling basis so we don’t expect a large number of transactions at first – we expect to see transactions increase gradually over time as more and more customers receive their meters and then need to start topping up.
When a pre-payment customer upgrades to a smart meter, ScottishPower will send the customer a paper token containing a barcode and they’ll bring that into the branch when they want to top up. Customers will also be able to use a barcode on the ScottishPower app when they come into the branch, which will be shown on their mobile device.
We acquired Payzone’s bill payments business in October 2018. Having 25,000 locations across the two networks puts us in a stronger position to bid for new business like this and to retain current contracts.
We’ll let you know when this service goes live in branches. Our user guide provides full details of how the transactions will work.
