The East of England We're Stronger Together Event

The East of England We're Stronger Together Event

"We’re Stronger Together" is not just a nice logo. It speaks the truth. You were there when your customers and communities needed you most.

Yesterday saw the first of our We’re Stronger Together Postmaster roadshows with Regional Manager Shaun Kerrison hosting our East of England event.

Group Chief Executive, Nick Read, opened the event with a look back at the incredible work Postmasters have done over the last few months including our response to Covid-19 as a business and how we worked together to support our customers – highlighting in particular the work the Branch User Forum did challenging us to be better and referencing the support we gave Postmasters from providing PPE to topping-up remuneration.

The event was also a chance to look forward and to take into consideration the huge impact Covid-19 has had on businesses and the way people shop.

Nick explained that although income has been impacted and footfall and sales are down we are starting to see a return to pre-Covid levels of trading, although some areas like Travel will have a slower recovery. But Nick’s message was clear – we need to concentrate and double down on our ‘Big 4’ products and services. Mails and Parcels. Cash and Banking. Our Travel business. And… Bill Payments. These make our Postmasters money, they drive footfall and they enhance retail sales.

These events are about Postmasters, and listening to your views and hearing your ideas. More than 80 questions were submitted by Postmasters, 10 were responded to during the 30 minute Q&A session. Questions from Mails to Banking, remuneration to Horizon were answered.

Questions not answered will be responded to when the events have ended - these will be published on One website, and shared with Regional Managers.

Finally the event was an opportunity to recognise the great work our Postmasters do supporting their communities, which has never been more relevant. Amanda announced special commendations in three awards categories:

Better for Customers: Hira Odedara – Bardney branch

Community Engagement: Martin Sizer – Caistor branch

Local Hero: Penny Sunaway – Otley branch

Congratulations to Hira, Martin and Penny and all our finalists and nominees.

And we’re looking forward to our roadshows continuing virtually around the country.

There are 8 further events coming up, with the next one on Monday for the Scotland Region. Click here to find out more and register to join the event.
