Planned updates for Google My Business pages

A couple of months ago we let you know that we made some changes and obtained ownership of Google My Business pages. That was a mistake and since then we’ve focused on making this right. We immediately put in place a process give ownership back to Postmasters who wanted to claim and update their own profile.

We joined calls with the NFSP and regional forums and shared updates through Amanda’s weekly email to Postmasters. Some of you told us you were happy for us to help you and left profile ownership with us. We also offered one to one calls and training to Postmasters like Jit at Chesham branch, in our Greater London region who is updating his entry on a regular basis.

Next steps

There is so much potential with Google My Business as it drives customers to your store and with the Christmas peak fast approaching and local lockdowns in place again, we can reach more people.

In fact, more customers searched for local shops on Google during the start of lockdown (March 23-29) than any other time in the last 12 months*, and 43% of local searchers will purchase instore within 24 hours.**

We want to move forward with plans we have around posting Christmas information on Google My Business Post Office pages.

From 26 October our Digital Team will start to add relevant customer messages as posts on Google. This will continue up to 23 December and will reflect the in branch marketing materials.

Posts will remind customers about UK and overseas posting dates, stamps availability and the importance of posting early. As there’s limited space on what you can share on Google, messages about last posting dates and Writing to Santa will link to pages on our customer website. Everything else is focused on driving people to your branch.

A schedule for when the team will add images to all Google My Business Pages is available through your Area Manager.
