Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard – Supporting customers with hidden disabilities

We know branches support vulnerable customers every day of the week and that’s why we want to provide everyone serving on a Post Office counter with the best guidance on how to engage customers with a range of needs.

1 in 5 people in the UK are disabled and 80% of them have a hidden disability – a condition where there is no obvious visible sign that a customer might need extra support.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme helps businesses like supermarkets, banks and transport hubs recognise and help those who have a hidden disability with the distinctive but discreet green and yellow sunflower design worn on lanyards, wristbands, cards and other items.

We will be sending all branches a laminate with details of the scheme, how you can support customers who wear the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and how your branch can get involved. You can find more information here.

Friday 3rd December is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The day aims to promote the rights and wellbeing of disabled people everywhere and an opportunity to help us reflect on how we can all be allies. We are pleased to be launching this scheme on this important day to show our collective commitment to all our customers.
