Based on last year’s data, next week (week starting 9 December) is expected to be our busiest week of the entire year for many of the Mails products with many branches generating almost double the sales of an average week. Plus this year we’re expecting the highest returns volumes of the period as well - are you ready?
Make sure all your team know how you are going to handle the increased volume of customers coming to your branches.
Inland and International sales
It can be easy to forget the 5Ws when you are busy, but given the value of items customers are sending generally increases over the Christmas period – it’s really important to use the 5Ws every time to help you recommend the best service for your customers’ needs.
Ask customers the value of their parcels to make sure they use a service that gives them the right compensation cover. Additionally, customers like the peace of mind that their gifts have arrived safely, so ask if they would like tracking or a signature on delivery as well.
Every time a customer chooses Special Delivery Guaranteed instead of 1st Class Signed For, it generates up to three times more revenue for a branch.
Last posting dates abroad
Many of our non-European last posting dates are in this week, so it’s going to be another busy week for international items. The last date to send non-European items through MyHermes is 8 December – this is a lot earlier than Royal Mail Last posting dates, so there’s huge opportunity for us to still get gifts there in time for Christmas and almost a full week extra to post items to the USA and Canada!
Plus, don’t forget to use labels instead of stamps for International items over 20g.
Missed the Royal Mail last posting dates? No problem!
Parcelforce Worldwide globalexpress offers last posting dates later than many of the Royal Mail dates including countries like Australia, USA, Canada, China and Japan; so you can still help customers deliver their gifts in time for Christmas – and offer them a 15% discount too! Check Horizon help for full list of dates.
Returns and collections
The Black Friday and Cyber Monday returns will start coming in so we expect this to be the busiest week of the year for returns, so make sure all your collections and returns customer visits are the best they can possibly be – many of these could be new customers to your branch. For customers returning Amazon items – remind them they can use Local Collect to get their items delivered to your branch if they aren’t sure they’ll be at home for a delivery.
Royal Mail now have extra deliveries in the run up to Christmas; therefore you may well receive more than one delivery of Local Collect items per day. Be on the lookout and make sure they are scanned in as soon as possible after they are dropped off.
Make the biggest week of the year really matter and we hope you have a great week.
