Great news - ScottishPower smart meter top-up payments are now available in Post Office branches for its pre-payment gas and electricity customers across the UK.
Pre-payment customers who choose to top up their smart meter over the counter using cash will only be able to do so in a Post Office or a Payzone bill payment outlet.
ScottishPower is supplying the new smart meters to customers on a rolling basis so we don’t expect a large number of transactions at first – we expect transactions will increase gradually over time as more customers receive a smart meter and then need to start topping up. ScottishPower lets customers know they can top up at their nearest Post Office in the information supplied with their smart meter.
It means more customers and business for both networks. This was the first major contract win we announced following our acquisition of Payzone’s bill payments business in October 2018 and shows the success of the acquisition. Having 25,000 locations across the two networks puts us in a stronger position to bid for new business like this and to retain current contracts.
When a pre-payment customer upgrades to a smart meter, ScottishPower sends the customer a paper token containing a barcode. The customer will bring that into the branch and you’ll scan it to start the transaction. Customers can also use the barcode on the ScottishPower app, which they’ll have on their mobile device.
It’s a cash-only transaction with a minimum payment for both gas and electricity top-ups of £1.00 and a maximum of £200.00.
