Postmasters supporting their communities with Pride

Postmasters supporting their communities with Pride

Our customers come from varied, diverse communities across the UK. And this summer, communities are coming together in celebration and solidarity to support equality and acceptance for all LGBT+ people, in more than 100 Pride events taking place across the UK. Here’s how you can show support for the LGBT+ community, from creating a customer experience to be proud of to joining Post Office pride events.

This year we’ve made it possible for branches to show their support in their own communities with our Pride marketing packs, allowing branches to contribute to the local party atmosphere and show their support with materials such as window vinyls and t-shirts. Packs can be ordered here, and with many of the Pride events yet to take place, we’re encouraging branches to get involved. Check out this list of local events to find out when Pride is happening near you:

In support of ‘Pride in London’ this weekend, the following branches are joining in with the pride spirit:

  • Great Portland Street
  • Poland Street
  • Regent Street St James’s
  • Shepherd Market
  • Mayfair
  • Strand

If you’re in central London this weekend you can show your support by lining the parade route and cheering on the Post Office contingent – all support is warmly welcomed. The parade begins at 12pm, starting at Portland Place, moving down Oxford Circus, along Regent Street to Piccadilly Circus, Lower Regent Street, Pall Mall and then passing Trafalgar Square before finishing on Whitehall.

There’s three more Post Office Prides to come – if you would like to sign up to take part in the Manchester Pride parade or attend the Bolton and Chesterfield events, please email zeinab.rahman@postoffice.co.uk.

The dates are:

  • Chesterfield Pride - Sunday, 21 July – Chesterfield
  • Manchester Pride - Saturday, 24 August - Central Manchester
  • Bolton Pride - Saturday, 21 September - Bolton

Lauren Gallagher, Post Office Diversity and Inclusion Manager said: “We’re really pleased to be supporting Prides across the UK this summer. As much as Pride events are a day of celebration, it’s also a chance for us to show our support and stand up against the injustices that too many LGBT+ people still face today”.
