Post Office Greatest Hits of 2018

After New Year, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the year and look forward to the opportunity ahead of us. Here we look at our top achievements of 2018 and think about what 2019 has to offer.

Postmasters in Queen’s Birthday Honours

The Queen’s Birthday Honours celebrates achievements and rewards the service of, extraordinary people around the UK. And two postmasters enjoyed Royal recognition for services to the Post Office and their local communities. Mrs Hematla (Hema) Gandhi, postmistress at Risinghurst in Oxfordshire. And Stuart Rogers, postmaster at Ashburton in Newton Abbott, Devon. Read about their achievements here.

  

The Payzone Acquisition

Perhaps one of the most exciting moments of 2018 was our acquisition of Payzone’s Bill Payments Business, giving customers the convenience of being able to choose from around 25,000 Payzone and Post Office locations to pay their bills. Over the next few weeks we’ll be looking more at how this will benefit our customers and help us become more competitive in the market.

Open All Hours

Located in the heart of London, the New Oxford Street branch has served customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week since opening in January 2018. The branch sits in a convenience store, providing customers with the essentials round the clock. In our constantly changing world, that means everything from food and drink to everyday banking services and broadband. 

It’s all part of our drive to make sure more people have access to our services. Wherever, whenever and however they need them. 

“From commuters to tourists, the branch is well-placed to serve a variety of people. They can come in to pick up their groceries as well as send postcards to family and friends. Pick up their travel money and collect or return their online shopping,” – postmaster Amarjit Singh Rakhra.

Our CommonUnity Campaign

This year we celebrated communities across Modern Britain as part of our CommonUnity campaign. Refresh your memory here. This campaign allowed us to reach more customers than ever and tell them how Post Office is relevant to them, really proving our value to communities across the UK.

The Post Office Travel App

We launched our travel app, which reached more customers and let them know that we really are the number one place for all travel products.

And on a similar note, we continue to be No.1 in Travel Money

The competition was tough with attractive deals and rates from the likes of Debenhams and Sainsbury’s. The conditions were far from ideal. A long, scorching summer and major events like the World Cup and Royal Wedding encouraged people to holiday in the UK.

But, we faced the challenges and our efforts paid off. Post Office is still the most popular option in the UK for Travel Money. Thanks to a blend of brilliant customer service in-branch and innovations like Travel Money Card and our Travel apps. We ended the year on a high by winning gold in the Best Foreign Exchange/Travel Money Retailer category at the British Travel Awards 2018.

The ‘When I Need it Most’ brand campaign

How do you tell the story of today’s Post Office in ways that surprise, entertain and enlighten people? In October, we brought our story to life with the ‘When I Need it Most’ brand campaign. 

If we are to achieve our goal of ensuring that the Post Office matters even more tomorrow than it does today, we need to stay relevant to people’s lives. That means redefining what the Post Office means to people from all walks of life, in communities far and wide. Our ‘When I Need it Most’ brand campaign helped us do it in bold and creative ways that really hit home. 

Postmaster success at External Awards!

And finally, in December, we announced that three of our branches were named as winners at the prestigious IAA Awards, showcasing the dedication of those in our branches. And it didn’t stop there. Post Office Branches from around the country found success at the Henderson’s Awards too.
