Postmaster Luke Francis from Bude Post Office in Cornwall made a special delivery to his Nanny on horseback, to present her 100th birthday telegram from Her Majesty the Queen.
Luke delivered the telegram, riding pony Bobby past cheering crowds, to present the telegram to his Nanny, at her birthday party at a local hotel in July 2019. His grandmother Ann Tape has lived in North Cornwall her whole life and she remembers her local Postmaster delivering the post on horseback when she was a child.
Luke said, "She can remember when the postman would come to her farm on the back of a horse, so we thought it would be significant to deliver her birthday telegram from the Queen on the back of Bobby."
It is thought to be the first time a birthday telegram has ever been delivered by a relative of the recipient.
Well done to Luke for arranging this truly special event. And thanks to Regional Manager Debbie Mickleborough, South West, for telling us about this great story, which was covered by BBC News and has had over 3.8 million views.
