MP visits Tenbury Wells Post Office & Spar Store after major flooding repairs

Tenbury Wells Post Office reopened on 10 July after major flood repairs were required to the SPAR store where the branch is based.

The SPAR store and Post Office at Teme Street in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire in the Midlands region had been temporarily closed since February 2020 due to serious flooding caused by Storm Dennis.

Tenbury Wells Post Office had been open for only a month when the River Teme burst its banks after several days of torrential rain and the whole store had to close.

Restrictions during the Coronavirus pandemic meant that the extensive repairs and refit took longer than planned. The whole store has been refurbished and reconfigured.

Harriett Baldwin MP for West Worcestershire said: “I know local people are delighted to see the SPAR and Post Office returning to full operation again. It’s a stunning re-design which looks amazing.

“The town has had a tough year, with serious floods and now Covid-19, but what has impressed me most has been local people’s resilience. I continue to campaign for flood defences for the town.

“I want to thank the Post Office for providing the temporary service during this closure and the cover from Bromyard Post Office was much appreciated by local people. Tenbury is definitely back and open for business”.

The Tenbury Wells branch in the SPAR store is by family-owned convenience store operator Blakemore Retail. Blakemore Retail Post Office Controller Stewart Waldron said: “We are delighted to have reopened both the convenience store and Post Office. We know how much the community has missed these services since the devastating floods. Restrictions during the Coronavirus pandemic delayed all the repairs work. It has been a very eventful year and we thank the community for their patience and understanding”.

During the past three months a temporary mobile Post Office provided Post Office services once a week.

Richard Hall, Public Affairs Manager, said: “We are delighted that once again Tenbury Wells has a full-time Post Office again inside these fully refurbished premises, which look great. We want to also thank the Postmaster for Bromyard for providing his Mobile Post Office service to Tenbury when the town has been without a branch”.
