Observing Remembrance Sunday 2019

Post Offices are at the centre of communities across the UK and many branches will be joining their local communities this Sunday 10 November to remember those servicemen and women who have lost their lives in war.

Remembrance Sunday also offers the opportunity for Post Office to remember the bravery of the Post Office Rifles. The infantry are perhaps best known for their role in some of the most devastating battles on the Western Front in the First World War, where they fought on the Somme and Passchendaele.

Approximately 12,000 men, mostly Post Office employees, fought with the regiment and 1,800 lost their lives. The Rifles received 145 awards for gallantry, including a Victoria Cross for Sgt. A.J. Knight. For more information on the Post Office Rifles, you can visit the Postal Museum website.
